A Conversation with our Founder: The Story Behind Hear. You.
This month, we're sitting down with our founder, Andrea Klar-Nathan, to delve into the story behind Hear. You. Andrea opens up about the deeply personal journey that led her to create this space for women, sharing her experiences with the unexpected challenges she faced, and what drives her to provide compassionate support for women navigating their own life challenges.
What inspired you to start Hear. You.?
The journey to founding Hear. You. was deeply personal. For years, I worked in public relations and marketing, and while I was successful, I felt that something was missing. The work, though rewarding in its own way, often felt like "fluff." It didn’t provide me with the deeper sense of purpose I was looking for. I longed for something that would allow me to connect with people on a more meaningful level and make a real difference in their lives.
This realisation coincided with a period in my life when I was completely caught off guard by the challenges I was facing. Problems in my marriage began very early on, just after our wedding, and these struggles continued as my husband and I embarked on a difficult and long journey with IVF. When my son was finally born, instead of the joy I had anticipated, I was overwhelmed with even more emotional turmoil. I felt like the ground had shifted beneath me, and I was struggling to find stability. I knew I needed support, and seeking help was one of the best decisions I ever made. The support I received was invaluable, empowering me to navigate these unexpected challenges.
This experience stayed with me and ultimately inspired me to retrain as a psychologist. I went back to university, determined to combine my communication skills with a deep understanding of psychology to create a service that fills that gap. That’s how Hear. You. was born—a space where women can find the support they need without the barriers that often come with traditional mental health services.
How do your personal experiences influence the way you approach your work at Hear. You.?
My personal experiences are at the heart of everything I do at Hear. You. Having been through my own struggles, I understand the importance of feeling heard, valued, and supported. I know how powerful it can be to have someone listen to you without judgment, to offer empathy and understanding when you need it most.
These experiences shape my approach in two key ways. First, they drive my commitment to providing a service that is accessible and affordable. I want to ensure that women can get the support they need without the barriers that often prevent them from seeking help. Second, they reinforce my belief in the power of compassionate listening. I’m not here to diagnose or prescribe—I’m here to listen, to support, and to empower women as they navigate their own journeys.
What makes Hear. You. different from other support services?
What sets Hear. You. apart is our focus on providing personalised, compassionate support specifically for women, by women. We understand that women face unique challenges, whether it’s balancing work and family, dealing with relationship issues, or managing the emotional ups and downs that come with life’s transitions. Our service is tailored to these needs, offering a space where women can feel truly heard and supported.
Moreover, Hear. You. is designed to be accessible. We offer flexible scheduling and pricing options that make it easier for women to access the support they need when they need it. Whether it’s through one-on-one sessions, group workshops, or our growing online community, Hear. You. is here to provide the kind of support that I needed during my own struggles—compassionate, non-judgmental, and effective.
What’s next for Hear You?
As Hear. You. continues to grow, I’m excited to explore new ways to support our community. This includes expanding our services to offer more group sessions and workshops, which will allow women to connect with each other and build a strong support network. I’m also looking into creating more resources, such as guides and online courses, to help women take charge of their mental and emotional well-being.
At the end of the day, my goal is to ensure that every woman who comes to Hear. You. feels empowered, supported, and heard. I’m deeply committed to this mission, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of so many incredible women.
Any final thoughts you’d like to share?
Just that I’m incredibly grateful to be on this journey. I’ve seen firsthand how transformative it can be when women are given the space to share their stories and receive the support they deserve. Hear. You. is my way of giving back and helping others find the clarity, comfort, and confidence they need to navigate life’s challenges. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or just need someone to talk to, I invite you to reach out and connect with us. We’re here for you, every step of the way.
